I highly recommend reading the works of recovering addicts, whether they pertain to addiction or not. Traveling Mercies by Anne Lamott is a favorite of mine.
**Note: Since writing “The Addict’s Gospel” a couple of books on sobriety have hit the shelves (We Are the Luckiest by Laura McKowen, and The Book of Waking Up by Seth Haines) I haven’t read them personally yet but they come highly recommended.**
